The first stage occurs at the beginning of your prescription drug coverage. This is the period when you pay for your prescription drugs in full until you meet your yearly deductible amount. After the deductible is met, you move into the Initial Coverage stage. Some plans do not have a yearly deductible. Under these plans, you would begin in the Initial Coverage stage.

Often called the 'Initial Coverage Phase', you will pay the plan's copays or coinsurance until a total drug cost of $5,030 is reached for the 2024 plan year.
Coverage Gap Expand Collapse
Often called the 'Donut Hole Phase'. UCare and EssentiaCare Medicare plan members pay 25% of their drug costs in this phase until the total out of pocket cost reaches $8,000 for the 2024 plan year. UCare Classic plan members pay their usual copay amounts for Tier 1 and Tier 2 generic drugs and 25% for all other tiers and brand name drugs in this phase..
Catastrophic Coverage Expand Collapse
After you reach a total of $8,000 in 2024 in out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses, you will pay $0 for covered Part D drugs. This phase lasts until the end of the plan year.
